Japanese designer Takashi Murkami has taken his collaboration with Louis Vuitton one step further with the  release of hand woven rugs from India. Good to see the QC’s are doing their job.

REAL Donuts in Guangzhou

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by Avi on 31-07-2009

FINALLY there is a REAL donut shop in Guangzhou. And its about bloody time. I am sick of those lumps of bread that people try to pass off as donuts in China. TIAN YOU YI CHENG DONUT SHOP is a franchise out of Taiwan and all their ingredients are imported from Japan. You can taste the difference right away.

or, Get on the escalator beside the West Gate of Teem Plaza…You can’t miss it…its smack opposite McDonalds & Bellagio.

or…just go in that area and follow the lovely aroma of fresh donuts….that’s the fastest way!

IKEA Mix

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by Avi on 30-07-2009

35 designers were commissioned to create new products using only parts they could purchase from IKEA. I can imagine some crazy concoctions, but could only find a few of the results online. The possibilities seem endless.

Hokkaido Abashiri BLUE Beer

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by Avi on 30-07-2009

Abashiri Brewery of Japan have just released a blue colored beer that is allegedly made from ice bergs that drift down to the Hokkaido shore. The fact that the pure glacier water might be used in the beer production does not cause the beer to turn blue, but this is one hell of a gimmick. I would like to have a taste of what they got on tap but blue beer?  On second thoughts, bring it on.

ZEVS Arrested in HK

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by Avi on 29-07-2009

Parisian street artist ZEVS was arrested last week in Hong Kong and is now released on bail. He fines up to $860,000!! ZEVS was busted for tagging the Armani store with his Liquefied Chanel logo. Just because BANKSY, KAWS, and OBEY have solidified their status as legitimate artists does not mean that other street artists are reverting from the urban landscape to studio canvasses. Life’s a risk captain. Put the needle in!

An Hui Violin and Piano Building

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by Avi on 23-07-2009

The Chinese pushed the envelope this decade with their designs for the Olympic City in Beijing. But even smaller projects around the country demonstrate some ingenuity and more over daring designs. This unique structure in the An Hui province of China features a large glass violin that houses the escalator for a building modeled after a grand piano. It looks like it is in the middle of nowhere though.

bobama 1 copy

Home again. Bobama was just in Ghana, and the city still feels very pasitieeve. I just saw some interesting news out of Oregon on CNN. A bunch 0f weed growers are going legal with their marijuana trade and pay substantial taxes to the government to help their city that is strapped for cash. Any other states gonna get on board?

Unique Art Display at Schönbrunn Zoo

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by Avi on 30-06-2009

Vienna’s  Schönbrunn Zoo recently hosted a series of art installations by Christoph Steinbrener and Rainer Dempf.  Although I have seen art exhibited in the Singapore and London Zoo’s, I have never seen it so closely incorporated into the animals habitats.  Looking at a bunch of caged animals can get monotonous but I find these installations to be extremely thought provoking. They kind of give me a feeling that this is what the world will look like when we are gone and the animals have free rein. All of our junk that we can not live without will just melt into the landscape and become part of their landscape. Useless hunks of metal and plastic.

6 Ramsgate, Singapore

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by Avi on 23-06-2009

Project Title: Six Ramsgate
Location: 6 Ramsgate Road, Singapore
Site Area: 3,937 square feet | 1,200 square meters
Built-In Area: 2,805 square feet | 855 square meters

Architecture firm: Wallflower Architecture + Design
Architect-in-charge: Robin Tan
Design Team: Robin Tan, Cecil Chee & Sean Zheng

I was recently in Singapore and spent some time driving around the old neighborhoods, checking out stuff. There are tons of new houses coming up on prime real-estate in Singapore and none of them look run of the mill in terms of design. The high walls rarely give you a glimpse into the architecture. This house located on Ramsgate Road in Singapore is a gem. The open concept really seems to allow tons of light in. The wooden slats on the second floor swivel allowing cross ventilation and they create really cool shadows too.

A1ONE on Flickr

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by Avi on 17-06-2009

A1one is an Iranian graffiti artist, based in Iran. Some of his work does make a political statement, but moreover they are mostly all just pretty sick. I spent hours last night checking out his pictures, it is amazing how he has managed to write graffiti in Farsi (Persian) so well. You can also notice and appreciate his quick learning curve. He faces the same issues with crappy paint and no stylized nozzle caps that other graffiti artists all over the world deal with, including me. But this guy has managed to come up with some seriously original designs that would even make a seasoned writer stop and take a second look, even pieces that can read simultaneously in English and Farsi!

Check out the A1LONE photo stream on flickr.

And with the political scene the way it is in Iran, it is obvious that this guy is putting his ass on the line doing what he does. He got the skillz to back it up.

BANKSY_Bristol_Museum

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by Avi on 16-06-2009

BANKSY just funded a small exhibition in his home town Bristol where it looks like he turned the Bristol Museum itself into a work of art.

The 100 installations were put up in just 36 hours.

None of them are for sale.

This stencil is only a one layer stencil but it took a while to cut. He came out pretty tight in the end. I am really looking forward to throwing him on to a skate deck. I got some new Canadian maple wood skate decks and will be working on a small project for RAW DREAMZ commin out of California.
